EATONTON: Mary Hester Richardson, 98, of Macon, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary
of Cherokee Heights United Methodist Church at 3:00pm on Friday, July 10, 2009.
Miss Richardson was born September 27, 1910, in Macon to Fred and Opal Elder Richardson. "Hessie," as she was
affectionately known, was a member of Cherokee Heights United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist
Women and the Sunday School department. She was the church choir director and organist for many decades, retiring in 1974
and returning to the position to help whenever needed. Miss Richardson was playing the organ on her 90th birthday when past
and present choir members filled the choir loft to surprise and honor her.
Mary Hester never "officially" had any children, but generously bestowed love and guidance to many generations
- her thoughtfulness defined her Christian character. Love was returned to her in abundance as evidenced by the hundreds of
cards she received from her friends in the final year of her life.
She was retired from the First National/Trust Company Bank where she worked in the Trust Department. She continued to
enjoy close ties with her bank friends by coordinating an annual Christmas party.
Mary Hester's sister, Katheryn Meade Richardson, preceded her in death. She is survived by her cousins, Charles and Margie
Homan and their children: Charles Homan, Jr., Ellen English, Bonner Gibson, and William Homan.
In lieu of flowers, a request is made for contributions to Cherokee Heights United Methodist Church, 2590 Napier Avenue,
Macon, Georgia 31204, or the Methodist Children's Home, Post Office Box 2525, Macon, Georgia 31203-2525.
Bridges Funeral Home and Crematory in Gray has charge of arrangements. Please visit the online memorial at: www.bridgesfh.com.
